What Is Content Marketing

Content marketing is a tactical marketing approach to create and distribute valuable, relevant and consistent content to obtain and attract a clearly defined audience, in order to drive profitable customer business.

In short, instead of launching your products or services, you provide information that makes the buyer smarter. The essence of this content strategy is the belief that if we, as companies, offer constant and valuable information to buyers, in the end we will reward with your business and your loyalty.

How do I start Content Marketing?

The best way to start or improve your current program is to read the “Back to Basics” series. It’s full of step-by-step approaches and templates to help you determine the foundation for your content marketing program:

Where to start Content Marketing?

Here’s a question they ask me all the time: “What should I do to start marketing content?” In short, there are two key elements to every successful marketing plan for content:

  1. Understand your goal (s)
  2. Mission Statement

These two elements are essential not only because they help you determine the content to be created, but also because they are excellent lenses where you can study content projects from a business perspective and see if there is something in particular that you should not do.

Let's explore each one in more detail:

  1. Understand your goal (s)

Content should never be created for it. Instead, you must support at least one Content marketing goal or business goal. Keep in mind the ways you’d like to get a portion of the content you want to help your business. For example:

  • Need to raise awareness of your brand?
  • Do you need to build your own email list?
  • Do you need to feed potential customers on a buyers trip?
  • Do you need to turn your audience into paying customers?
  • Do you need to keep customers and / or increase your purchases (increase / sell)?
  • Do you need to turn clients into evangelists?

Remember every time ask yourself, “How will this project maintain our big business objectives?” If you find that the content you planned will not support these goals, it is probably not a priority.

2.Create (and follow) the mission statement

As Joe Polizi explains in Epic Content Marketing, the mission statement describes the company’s existence, priorities and perspectives in pursuing that task. As such, I should talk about three components of any successful marketing effort:

The main objective of the audience: The type of person who can help more in its content.

What will be delivered to the public: The types of information that will be provided through its content

The desired result for the audience: things that your audience can do once they consume their content

Develop Your Content Marketing Strategy: What You Need to Know

Your goals and mission statement are the best reference points to measure the value that your content contributes to your business. But to give a marketing program to your content the best chance of success, you will need a documented marketing strategy content.

In fact, having a documented strategy is essential, because it is a key element that separates marketers from the effective content of their less effective peers. As we saw in the answers to our annual research, those with a documented marketing strategy:

They are much more likely to be effective in marketing content.

Feeling less challenging is great with every aspect of content marketing

Are generally considered more effective in using all content marketing methods and social media

They are able to justify spending a higher proportion of their marketing budget on content marketing

Here are some common questions to help you start creating a content marketing strategy from scratch or improving your strategy.

Is there a template I can follow? There is no single “model” to create a content marketing strategy, as all companies must approach this technology from their own unique point of view, according to their specific marketing needs and requirements. However, there are some common elements that should be shared by all content marketing strategies (see below).

Do I have to document my strategy? It is not important to document your strategy, but from my experience, something magical happens when you place the pen on paper and document the details. Communication can be drawn more easily, and helps everyone on the same page.

How does content marketing different from other forms of marketing?
