What Is Content Marketing

Content marketing is a tactical marketing approach to create and distribute valuable, relevant and consistent content to obtain and attract a clearly defined audience, in order to drive profitable customer business.

In short, instead of launching your products or services, you provide information that makes the buyer smarter. The essence of this content strategy is the belief that if we, as companies, offer constant and valuable information to buyers, in the end we will reward with your business and your loyalty.

Here’s a question they ask me all the time: “What should I do to start marketing content?” In short, there are two key elements to every successful marketing plan for content:

  1. Understand your goal (s)
  2. Mission Statement

These two elements are essential not only because they help you determine the content to be created, but also because they are excellent lenses where you can study content projects from a business perspective and see if there is something in particular that you should not do.

Let's explore each one in more detail:

Content should never be created for it. Instead, you must support at least one Content marketing goal or business goal. Keep in mind the ways you’d like to get a portion of the content you want to help your business. For example:

  • Need to raise awareness of your brand?
  • Do you need to build your own email list?
  • Do you need to feed potential customers on a buyers trip?
  • Do you need to turn your audience into paying customers?
  • Do you need to keep customers and / or increase your purchases (increase / sell)?
  • Do you need to turn clients into evangelists?

Remember every time ask yourself, “How will this project maintain our big business objectives?” If you find that the content you planned will not support these goals, it is probably not a priority.
